But she also believes that God has given us the ability to confront these difficulties and overcome them. One of the blessings Jews recite in our morning prayers says, “You favor humanity with knowledge and teach a person understanding. Favor us with Your knowledge, understanding and wisdom. Blessed are You gracious giver of knowledge.” Our human ability to bring this vaccine into existence is part of the blessings conveyed to us by virtue of being created in the Divine Image. The vaccine is a blessing.

Why is Rabbi Meryl excited about receiving the COVID-19 vaccine? “Rabbi Meryl is excited to get this vaccine because it is the best way for us, collectively, to conquer the Coronavirus COVID-19. We may not be able to eradicate it, but if enough people throughout the world get vaccinated, it will stop spreading and killing people. This is what our forebears did in the last century to eliminate the threat of polio. She remembers taking the polio vaccine as a school child and now she understand how important that act was. May we consider the discovery, production and distribution of this vaccine as a holiday miracle.”
